Century-old Advertising Thoughts
I picked up a 1909 book called International Library of Technology that discusses advertising, type settings, and layouts. The first pages already mention two fundamentals that still apply 113 years later. 1) a happy customer is your best advertiser for your product, and 2) (think of Google AdWords and Facebook Advertising) a more comprehensive customer reach through advertising requires more money to spend.
